The album from which this song is drawn was released in November 1995... It references a handful of various social taboos and issues present in that time.. I'd find it interesting to see what they'd reference these days.. 

That if you come to Australia by boat you'll be derided but you can fly in on working holiday, overstay your visa and it's okay?

That if you're struggling to get by that the best solution is to take it out on the people poorer than you? 

That you're better off not trying to fix your situation, all the help goes to drug addicts, alcoholics, gamblers.. 

Well, the song did say in a world degenerating...  We've certainly proven that.. 

We seem to live in a world where when everybody used to do something to where now a few do a lot and a lot do nothing.. We're drawn to big crises but ignore the many small disasters occurring around us daily..  

And the gap is getting wider..
